Ntsaoueni Traditional fishing village & Mtsoimwindza historical tombs
Ntsaoueni is the most traditional fishing village where you can meet local fisherman around traditional fishing boats, known as Galawa
These are made of mango tree trunk
You can also meet the tomb of famous Mtsoimwindza, the first muslim pilgrim of the island
This is the town through which the Muslim religion was introduced to the Comoros and the capital of the M'boudé region. Mtsoimwindza, whose real name was Mhassi Fessima, son of the chief of Batsa Itsandra (Bedja of Itsandra), is one of the kings who ruled the town. In the 7th century, he embarked on a journey to Arabia, accompanied by Arab traders who had landed on the shores of a beach on the island of Grande Comore. He went to Medina, where he converted to Islam, and then returned to his town, Ntsaouéni, where the entire local population would come to learn the rules of the new religion.
Ntsaoueni is also the site of the first act of civil disobedience in Comorian history: the so-called 'Soidiki Hadji' conflict, named after the Comorian deputy from Ntsaoueni, who dared to say no to the President of the Comoros, Said Mohamed Cheikh, regarding an unfair electoral districting measure.
Ntsaoueni is, after Domoni (Mboudé), the town closest to the main Comorian airport, Prince Said Ibrahim International Airport, which is only about 7 km to the south.
In Ntsaoueni, there are two monuments of great historical value: the tomb of Mtsoimwindza and that of Mohamed Ben Othman, son of Othman Ben Affane, the 3rd caliph of Islam, whose ninth child was Mohamed Ben Ottman.
Fishery is also symbolic in Ntsaoueni village and you can see the tradional harbour with all traditional boats known as Galawa
